Master
and owner of the sense?
To
become master and owner of nature.
This Cartesian dream could not be
formulated had it not been preceded, more than five centuries before,
by this other dream to become master and
owner of the sense. Can you control
nature before being turned master of the essences and of the verb?
That starts around the year 1100. Beginning very timidly and in a
quasi innocent way. Among the protagonists we find a man with a
singular destiny, Abelard, one of the first 'modern' thinkers. With
this 'master of dialectics' a drama is playing between reason and
faith. Actually it is with the nominalistic crisis that the Western
intelligence starts to succumb to schizoid temptation.

Today there remain still many illusions. And for
a lot of spirits the obviousness is not yet obvious. You can even say
that the obviousness is accepted with more difficulty by our
modernity. As if the myth of 'lucidity' were the most blinding of
all! The obviousnesses, however, becomes growing.
Thus,
the modern claim 'to become masters and owners of nature' was located
and functioned in a system which was thought to be absolute. But, in
fact, we discover today that it is actually included
in a broader system which can only relativize it. Another deadly
illusion! We believed that the dynamics of the sense could emerge ex
nihilo or coming out of Jupiter's thigh like the most 'natural' thing
of the world. We are now taking greater awareness - the paradigm of
our material ecosystem enlightening us - that our possibilities are
coming from a more including
donation of sense.
We
are likely to lose the sense.
Deserting
the house of Father, we wanted to be masters of universality, we
discover we are just tramps of insignificances. Until where will it
be necessary to trail our illusions for, again, being
touched by the nostalgia of paternal spaces? How long is the prodigal
son of modernity willing to keep the pigs before finding the way
towards the house of Father? First, undoubtedly, he should find the
way of anamnesis. And the profound cry of nostalgia.
You
need doubtlessly a good amount of naivety to believe today that this
'other' Word is relevant in a world where the detractors of sense
proliferate, strong of their demystifying
clearnesses and sure of their
uncertainties. When the significances, having lost the references,
turn in round, trapped in their nominalistic tautology. When the
reference frames themselves begin to float at the mercy of
conventions and even of modes… These skin deep complicities with
the current affairs guarantee the euphorias of our itching. To be
trendy becomes the categorical imperative of our uprooting.
If
the bankruptcy of the sense is topical it is necessary to become
out-of-date by refusing the nonsense. Such a dissidence
urges more than ever. And more than ever it requires audacity, somassive is the mimetic constraint of liquidation. Just imagine that the rebellious voices reached by the contagion die out and the small remainder of the protesters of the sense keep silent, how long, do you think, the world could survive? Vis-a-vis a world which
forgives every thing those who follow it stupidly it is urgent to
cultivate the duty of indocility.
The
modes carry us in the direction of the wind. To be authentically
ourselves it is also necessary to dare to be out-of-date. Thousand
and one reasons of suspicion militate in favour of the semantic
abortions. Something like a great anonymous conspiracy leagues
against the sense. And largely spreads out a consensus of
resignation. One believes spiritual energy is unfailing. It is
fragile like the breath. Its entropy is more implacable than that of
all other kinds of energy. Spiritual energy is degraded by abdication
in chain, by imperceptibly accumulated fragments of abdication, by
innocent tiny juxtaposed abdications. Their abdicating mechanisms
need, to function, the force of illusion. Each one believes he is the
only one to resist. All feel drowned in the 'one' who abdicates.
Thus none dares to protest. And, vicious circle, this collective
silence consolidates discouraged lonelinesses. One needs for this
spiritually feeble world prophets who testify of the infinite opening
of the Sense and, therefore, of hope.

Can man give to himself his hot source?
What is remarkable is that all the
cultures, except for the modern one, functioned or continue to
function with a powerful hot source and accumulators of sense quite
charged. Powerful hot source of absolute meaning: God, Being, Cosmos,
Nature, Order, Values… Accumulators of sense quite charged: an
important tradition-transmission of signified and signifier meanings.
All these cultures function in homo-stasis with the ecosystem of the
Sense, and until their decline, they defy victoriously the entropic
fate of degradation of their spiritual energy.
Nevertheless
there are the 'accumulators'.
Even the most radical absurdity does not succumb to its own logic because the powerful accumulators of semantic energy are not yet flat, especially those of the Judeo-Christian
significance. Our modernity
functions despite everything, even by surreptitious participation, on
a formidable reserve of sense, true capital of spiritual energy made
up during the Western history. Constituted in particular during these
long periods we call obscurantists and we begin reconsidering today thanks
to a healthier
ecology of the sense.
